Planning Your Perfect Outdoor Garden Wedding

A romantic wedding location that doesn’t have to break the bank is an outdoor garden wedding. A garden can be rented for the occasion, or a smaller event can take place in your own backyard.

However, garden weddings require managing things a little differently, and they have a unique set of potential problems. Here are five tips to making your outdoor garden wedding go as smoothly as possible.

Outdoor Garden Wedding

1. Keep decor simple.

One of the finest aspects of an outdoor wedding is enjoying the natural scenery around you, so don’t overly clutter the area with fancy decorations. A few touches like an arch, nice chairs, and maybe some balloons and streamers to tie in some colour are plenty for an outdoor wedding. Plus, it saves whoever is cleaning up the hassle of working long hours after nightfall.

2. Try breathable fabrics.

There may be a joke among bridesmaids about dresses they can’t breathe in, but there’s a difference between a dress feeling a little tight around the middle and a dress making the wearer swelter. If your setting has the potential for high temperatures, consider outfits constructed with lighter, more breathable fabric options for the cast of your wedding.

3. Keep food covered.

Set up your refreshments and buffets under the cover of a patio, and keep everything in sealed containers until it is time to serve the guests. It may not look as fancy as perfectly aligned cups or multi-tiered cakes but it keeps food safe from wind, falling leaves, and other outdoor culinary disasters.

4. Tend to any worn-looking plants.

If you are renting an outdoor location for your wedding, be sure to visit in person and inspect the area. This is a good idea for any rental situation, but is absolutely critical with a garden wedding. If the setting has worn looking plants, several weeds, or anything else that notably affects the mood of the garden, skip the idea that you’ll hide the problems with decor and don’t rent that location. If your garden wedding is at home, invest in healthy flowers to replace any dying ones, and take some time to weed or hire a gardener to weed for you. With all the money you are saving by keeping the unnatural decor at a minimum, as mentioned in the first piece, this is a great place to direct those extra pounds in the budget.

5. Always have a backup indoor location.

No matter how care and effort is put into assembling the perfect outdoor garden wedding, weather is beyond anybody’s control. Weather predictions can be wrong, and rain can happen at the least expected times. To avoid having to postpone such a momentous occasion, be sure to have an indoor location available as a last resort. When you send out invitations for the wedding, include the location of the backup venue to avoid delays due to confused guests.
